The p~T values of gaskets are all obtained through professional tests. Various conditions specified in the full set of test standards exert considerable impacts on final test results. This article focuses on two key variables: test stress and test medium, and illustrates how they modify the measured p~T relationship.
To achieve effective sealing with a gasket, appropriate working stress must be applied. The industry has defined criteria for the minimum sealing specific pressure and working stress required for sealing. When testing the temperature and pressure resistance of gaskets, the magnitude of applied stress directly affects test data, especially pressure resistance indicators, which in turn cause fluctuations in final p~T values.

In addition, the selected test medium is also critical. Gaseous media such as helium and nitrogen are commonly used in tests. These two media differ in molecular properties, and helium features relatively prominent permeation capacity. When leakage rate is adopted as the evaluation criterion, the measured temperatureresistance and pressure resistance data of gaskets will change upon switching the test medium.

It can be concluded that when referring to gasket p~T parameters, one should not merely focus on numerical values, but also understand the corresponding test conditions, so as to ensure rational reference of these parameters.
